Updating the maps on my garmin
Due to the GPS limit of 1MP on a map size, the largest untiled map you should export is 1024x1024 pixels.Untiled exports are useful for small areas, and for true "what you see is what you get." Luckily Topo Fusion lets you export large areas of maps using the Tiled KMZ Export. In this case you update the maps on your sat-nav using Garmin Express which you download from Garmin's website and install on your PC or Mac.Once downloaded and installed, the update process is relatively straightforward. KMZ files placed in the [GPS drive]:\Garmin\Custom Maps directory will show up on the GPS.There are two ways to export maps -- tiled and untiled.
You buy a micro/SD card preloaded with the Ireland/UK maps, you insert it into the side of your device and off you go.
You have an option to purchase either a one-time map update which currently costs €59 or lifetime map updates which costs €89.
If your sat-nav is over 3 years old, I would recommend the onetime update only.
Garmin have made a number of changes to their map update procedures in the last year.
For those with newer devices these changes have made it much simpler, for others it can still be a painful process with numerous calls to Garmin technical support.
